Perfume as Practice AW16 housed 14 unique and varied perfume portraits at Bank Street Arts, Sheffield, from 22nd November – 3rd December 2016. In an attempt to describe the common threads that emerge when investigating each artists’ response to the question ‘Why do you make art?’ all perfumes were themed under the guise of a woodland collection. Each bottle, clean, un-embellished and transparent, comprised 48ml sweet almond oil and 30 drops of essential or fragrance oil. A scented narrative was attempted, with perfumes positioned in a way that allowed each fragrance to speak for itself:
